DC, Philly, NYC, WBGO, and New Videos
Hope you're enjoying these early musings of Spring.
I apologize for the late notice. I'm happy to be bringing Gamak to DC's famous Blues Alley this Thursday (tomorrow!) and Friday nights. Sets are at 8 and 10 PM. I had an amazing time there last year with Samdhi and can't wait for DC to see Gamak!
Further details and tickets are available here.
From there we head to Blue Bell, PA (just outside of Philadelphia) for a show at Montgomery County Community College on Saturday night. We're honored to be part of this wonderfully curated performing arts series!
More info here.
At long last, we are officially celebrating the release of Gamak in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge on April 11. We're very excited to hit LPR again as we had such a great time there at this past Winter Jazz Fest.
Speaking of that, I just noticed that someone posted a video from that performance:
Gamak also performed live in WBGO's studios for Josh Jackson's show The Checkout to plug our NYC show. Just click the logo below to hear it.
Lastly, I was really excited to see that the entire set of Apex at the 2011 Jazz Baltica Festival was posted on YouTube. For those of you who don't know, Apex was my quintet project featuring alto saxophone legend Bunky Green. Enjoy!
Hope to see you at one of these upcoming shows and do please spread the word!

Just a quick note to let you know that my new album Gamak is streaming in its entirety on NPR's First Listen until Monday.
Also, there's a video about the album, the band, and the music on myhomepage that I think you'll enjoy. I'll be in touch next week once the album comes out!
Lastly, for those of you who don't know already, my wife and I had a baby boy little over 5 weeks ago.
I hope to be bringing Talin Pascal Mahanthappa out to some shows soon!
Thanks for reading! More soon!

Tour Video & Indo-Pak at Miller Theatre
Greetings from Amsterdam where I'm stranded due to Hurricane Sandy. I hope that everyone who was hit by the storm has fared well with little damage or injury!!
If all goes as planned, I'll be home tomorrow afternoon. Please cross your fingers for me!
We had a great tour with Samdhi these last two weeks starting at the Akbank Caz Festival in Istanbul and finishing at the Guinness Jazz Festival in Cork. Despite my electronics being stolen and bit of grueling travel towards the end, a lot of great music was performed for a bunch of really wonderful audiences. Below is a video from our show at Moods in Zurich. Just click the photo and enjoy!
Our show at Nancy Jazz Pulsations was also filmed for France's Mezzo channel for broadcast next year.
I'm happy to tell you that the Indo-Pak Coalition with Rez Abbasi on guitar and Dan Weiss on drums and tablas will be at Miller Theatre this Saturday night. This will be our first show in NYC since our album release in 2008.
Needless to say, the band has grown a lot and we hope you can join us!
You can get tickets here.
Also for those of you in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area, we are hoping to be at Edgefest on Thursday night if the airport and airline gods smile upon us.
Thanks for reading.
I sincerely hope all of you are well!!
