Bird Calls Released Today!
Hi Everyone!
Its been quite a while since I've written.
Happy New Year!
I'm happy to tell you that my new album Bird Calls for ACT Music is out today.
You can pick it up at Amazon, iTunes, or wherever you like to buy music. By the way, we pressed some vinyl for this one too!!
This album is a tribute to the great alto saxophone icon Charlie Parker, BUT we don't play any of his music. Instead, we are playing my original compositions which are based on his work. This quintet recording features some my absolute favorite players in NYC: pianist Matt Mitchell, bassist François Moutin, drummer Rudy Royston, and young trumpet prodigy Adam O'Farrill on trumpet.
You can learn more about the album in this video:
There has already been some wonderful press. Among others, here is an interview in Downbeat as well as a review in today's New York Times.
I was also on All Things Considered this past weekend. You can hear that story here.
We'll be at The Jazz Standard in NYC for our CD release show on March 24. Please mark you calendars.
Paying respect to this legend of modern music is a really meaningful experience for me. I hope that you enjoy what you hear!
In other news . . .
I continue to perform Song of the Jasmine, the work I composed for Ragamala Dance, throughout the US. We have lots of shows coming up this spring. My show calendar has all the info.
And my 2-year old son Talin continues to be a total joy!
