Tour Video & Indo-Pak at Miller Theatre
Greetings from Amsterdam where I'm stranded due to Hurricane Sandy. I hope that everyone who was hit by the storm has fared well with little damage or injury!!
If all goes as planned, I'll be home tomorrow afternoon. Please cross your fingers for me!
We had a great tour with Samdhi these last two weeks starting at the Akbank Caz Festival in Istanbul and finishing at the Guinness Jazz Festival in Cork. Despite my electronics being stolen and bit of grueling travel towards the end, a lot of great music was performed for a bunch of really wonderful audiences. Below is a video from our show at Moods in Zurich. Just click the photo and enjoy!
Our show at Nancy Jazz Pulsations was also filmed for France's Mezzo channel for broadcast next year.
I'm happy to tell you that the Indo-Pak Coalition with Rez Abbasi on guitar and Dan Weiss on drums and tablas will be at Miller Theatre this Saturday night. This will be our first show in NYC since our album release in 2008.
Needless to say, the band has grown a lot and we hope you can join us!
You can get tickets here.
Also for those of you in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area, we are hoping to be at Edgefest on Thursday night if the airport and airline gods smile upon us.
Thanks for reading.
I sincerely hope all of you are well!!

Downbeat, Newport, Brampton, and More
I hope that the Summer has treated you well thus far. It's hard to believe that August is already upon us! I'm happy to tell you that I was named Alto Saxophonist of the Year by both the Jazz Journalist Association and the 60th Annual Downbeat Critics Poll earlier this Summer. You can see who else won by clicking the links.
I'm also nominated in several categories in the Downbeat Reader's Poll. Please vote for me and my friends here. The full results will be published in the December issue.
Samdhi will be at the Newport Jazz Festival on Sunday, August 5. I'll be joined by my regular homies David Gilmore on guitar and Rich Brown on electric bass as well as my long time friend and fellow Coloradan Rudy Royston on drums. I'll be playing with Jack DeJohnette's band the day before in addition to a quick duo with Lionel Loueke and a solo/laptop performance at the Newport Jazz Fundraiser Gala. All ticket info for both the festival and gala can be found here.
Here's a fun video of me talking about Samdhi and my relationship to this important annual musical event:
On Saturday, August 11, Samdhi will be at the Art of Jazz Festival in Brampton, Ontario just outside of Toronto. We kickoff the outdoor stage that day and our set is free!
I just finished mastering my next album Gamak featuring guitar virtuoso Dave Fiuczynski along with my quartet stalwarts François Moutin on acoustic bass and Dan Weiss on drums. Look for a release on the ACT label in January 2013.
Lastly, if you've made it this far, I was part of a wonderful project last Fall that very few people had a chance to see. The amazing Jim McNeely arranged a bunch of my music for the Frankfurt HR Radio Big Band. I was a guest soloist for the performances along with the brilliant Dan Weiss on drums, Poovalur Sriji on mridangam, and Raman Kalyan on Carnatic flute. Here's a video of us performing Playing With Stones from Samdhi:
You can watch the entire concert here.
Thanks so much for reading!
I'll be back in touch soon with updates about Fall shows and the new album.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
